Hamilton Goes Red for Women’s Heart Heath
(Hamilton NJ, January 29, 2009) -- At a time when many communities across the country are going “green” to improve the
environment, Hamilton Township is going “red” on Friday, February 6, 2009 to promote awareness of
heart disease and its effect upon women.
Friday, February 6th is National Wear Red Day 2009 and Hamilton Township is joining in the effort.
Mayor John F. Bencivengo is encouraging Township employees to wear red as part of the National
Wear Red Day effort, which seeks to raise awareness of heart disease’s impact on women. Heart
disease is the leading cause of death for women in the United States.
Additionally, the Township will be taking monetary donations from employees that will be given to the
American Heart Association for cardiovascular disease research.“Heart disease is the number 1 cause of death for women in the United States and ‘National
Wear Red Day’ focuses attention on this disturbing statistic so that we, as a country, can help
to reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular disease in women,” said Mayor Bencivengo. “Here
in Hamilton, we are attempting to be part of the solution. And I would encourage residents to
consider how they may be able to help in the cause.”
Residents can find out more information on “National Wear Red Day” or who wish to give a financial
contribution to the American Heart Association for research may do so through the website:

“Heart disease in women is not only a ‘woman’s’ issue – it is an issue that affects men as well
because it impacts the lives of our mothers, wives, children, friends and neighbors,” concluded
Mayor Bencivengo. “By working together in this cause, we can make a positive difference in
the lives of women across Hamilton Township and our entire country.”
